Ernabella Arts and traditional storytelling in Anangu culture, how the development of new craft practices, building on old craft practices, allows for a permanent record to be made of what were oral transmissions, or ephemeral artworks, in the past.
Ernabella Arts was founded in 1948 and is the oldest Indigenous Art Centre in Australia. The subject of much of the art made at Ernabella, is the creation stories for the country the people were born to and live on. Ernabella Arts now has three main aims – creation of beautiful artworks, passing down of cultural knowledge through art, and employment for young people.
