Sharing and Giving---Spirit of Christmas
Recently, the deeds of an old man have caught the eyes of many people, and warmed many more and made him famous throughout Hangzhou. The librarians recalled that the elderly man would come twice or thrice a week and choose to read newspapers or magazines about the current affairs.
Once Wei Sihao said, “I often fall vulnerable to feeling depressed. But reading lifts my spirits. Especially when a positive article comes into my view, I will be more than happy for a long time.”
At this very moment, an old rag-picker came into focus. He would wash his hands clean and neat every time, before entering the Public Library. He did whatever he could in his own way to keep the facilities he used in good order. Later, he made the news. The public saw the dignity and decency of the less lucky people having a great time in the Ivory Tower sponsored by the social service providers.
It is Wei Sihao who helped quite some students in need to get through their schooling. With Christmas drawing near, it is well into the winter of the year, and is getting freezing cold, but there is a little fire kindling a forest of fire of sharing and giving.
Unfortunately, a traffic accident of December 13, 2015, robbed the 77-year-old man of his life. During running through his belongings, the three daughters came to find, to their astonishment, scores of certificates showing that he had been donating and helping many poor students since 1994. Though living on what little money he could make by collecting and selling plastic bottles and tins, Wei Sihao donated most of his modest pension. Another certificate indicates that he would like to donate his organs after death.
In the depth of winter, Wei Sihao reached out, giving away to the needy, in spite of his advanced age; as the incarnation of the spirits of Christmas, he shared what he had with the community he committed himself to.
