On the 11th of April 2018, around 35 employees of the Huamao Group met at the Ningbo Lishe International Airport. Some of them know each other, some don’t. To Jenny, Sherry and I, it was the first time to meet everyone. The emotions were a mixture of excitement and suspense, as we are looking forward to the next six days but at the same time unsure how it will go. Carrying these feelings with us, we board the 8:20am flight to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
Throughout the six days, we visited places as a group. We travelled from Taoyuan to Kaohsiung, then headed off to Taichung and Taipei. As a team, we visited temples, tourist attractions, museums, night markets and ate different Taiwanese cuisines and delicacies. What made the trip very pleasant is the surprisingly good blend of personalities amongst these 35 people who didn’t know each other, yet shared only one common aspect: the company they work for. People kept an eye on each other to ensure each other’s safety, shared experiences about food and travel, shopping and occasionally about the work they do. We never thought we can get to know each other in mere six days.
To me, Alishan strikes me with great impact. It was almost identical to where I came from and the physical features of the indigenous people were very similar. I had to remind myself I am in Taiwan, miles away from home. It was a very beautiful place and we inhaled the fresh mountain air, as we sat and drank tea produced by the same mountain.
The final dinner is a mixture of bittersweet emotions. It was a private dinner in a room where we can have the opportunity to recall experiences, thank each other for a wonderful experience and exchange contacts. As the end of the Taiwan trip approaches, we look forward to seeing our families again and sleep on that familiar bed, yet we were sad that six days have gone so fast when we just barely started a friendship that might last a lifetime. We thank the Huamao Group for giving us the opportunity to have known these wonderful colleagues that we don’t get to meet on a daily basis and the unique experience that is most memorable and valuable to us.
